Citroen C1 vs. Peugeot 107 – same car different name?

Both are billed as ‘city-cars’, both are supposed to be good for the environment and offer you good fuel economy and both look exactly the same…so what’s the difference between the new Citroen C1 and the new Peugeot 107?

The next time you find yourself cruising behind a C1 or a 107 you will struggle to spot the visible difference – the only obvious indicator being the badge.

Both cars are flat at the back, have prominent black bumpers and near identical reat lights. You probably wouldn’t be able to spot the difference from the side either and the only thing that sets these cars apart at the front is the Peugeot’s unique smile. The front grille has been curved to convey a cheeky grin whilst the headlights represent the eyes – and the badge…the nose! The Peugeot design team were clearly in a good mood when designing the cheeky 107.

So if you don’t have a preference between (or a dislike for) Citroen and Peugeot cars what splits these ‘city-car’ twins apart?

Well, the Peugeot 107 comes in either a three-door or five-door… but then so does the Citroen C1. Both cars have also scored a 4-star Euro NCAP rating and both have near-identical interiors. But Citroen do offer you more options when it comes to choosing an engine.

With the C1 you can get a 1.0l or a 1.4l diesel engine and the Peugeot only comes with a 1.0 petrol engine. The first difference then, is the Citroen can offer you a choice of engines!

The reason why these little city cars are so identical is because they were both manufactured in the Czech Republic in a joint venture with Toyota. The joint venture meant that both companies could save money when it came to designing and buying materials. That’s why you will be pleasantly surprised when you jump inside one of the cabins – the quality is reasonably high.

So, whether your preference for one vehicle make will decide the outcome of your city-car dilemma, there really isn’t much to choose between – including the price, which may be an issue in the current financial climate (both start from around £7,695). The deciding factor may even depend upon which dealership is closer to your home or may even fall down to the colour because in terms of the exterior, interior and the technical specifications there really isn’t anything in it!
