Honda Civic or the Mazda6?

Been looking around to see what cars compare to the stylish Mazda6, and the one I keep seeing is the Honda Civic.  Now stop me if I’m wrong, but how can anyone compare the Mazda 6 against with a Civic, let alone a Honda?

Firstly, the mazda6 is clearly the more executive car, with an interior unlike most other cars in the class, and the handling can be so much more enjoyable to drive, it doesn’t even compare to the Honda, which can be very heavy and bulky feeling car to drive.

Now, I don’t drive either of these cars myself, but I think if I was lucky enough to be given an option, I would go for the mazda 6 hands down.

For a start, you can get such a wider range of models from the 1.8 5dr S, thru to the 2.5 5dr Sports Luxury edition, which really isn’t much more expensive than the more basic version of the Mazda 6 S.

Then there is the Honda Civic, there is a Type S and a Type S GT… Whoopy…. Although you can choose from either Petrol or Diesel, and the Manual or i-SHIFT which really doesn’t leave much to get excited about, even though they do range from the same price bracket to the same price braket.  Which one would you choose…. It’s a tough choice, but I’m sure you can do it.

Lean, Green Driving Machine

Now I’m confused. It seems that when ever I see one of those Mazda2 nipping around, they are more often green.  Now I have nothing against the colour green, but when you look at many of the other colours Mazda offer, I’m confused to why so many people would choose this colour.

I remember back when Vauxhall released the Tigra for the first time, it was that weird “burnt orange” colour, that again, it seemed that if you purchased one of these cars, then you had to have this colour, now with Mazda, it’s the same but in green.  But is it one of those colours that look great in the showroom, but once you’ve driven around in it for a few months, one of those colours you kinda regret getting. “maybe I should have picked the black, or the grey, or maybe even the red,” but for that moment in time when your sitting their in front of the sales person in the posh showroom that thinks they are classy just because they have a coffee machine bubbling away in the far corner?

Now I know that every brand want, and many have the signature vehicle identifies them and gives them a real ego boost when they go to their local supermarket and see a scatter of signature colour vehicles in the car park, but come on, when are the manufacturers going to launch a cheeky little car that doesn’t stand out like a teenager with spots in the class school photo.

Now in this instance, the mazda 2 is a sexy looking car. It seems to have the style you wouldn’t be embarrassed to drive, even if the car is your girlfriends. It’s got great value for money when buying petrol (which you have to admit, the prices are getting silly now) at 68.9 mpg on the 1.4 diesel combined figures, and comes with a whole host of extras that at the prices I’ve seen online, might, just might be something I would consider driving around in myself (one day).

Skoda V’s Mazda – The Review Begins

Whilst looking online for what Skoda deals were available, I found a company in Sussex, UK, that seem to be pretty helpful.

First of all, I obvously had a look around the website to see what offers they were promoting on their website, and then decided to give them a call to see if I could get a even better deal, and for what seemed like the first time, I actually had a sales guy that actually listened to me, and didn’t keep interupting me to sell me something I didn’t want. I wanted a Skoda Fabia and I didn’t want to pay the full asking price, which at the time of this post was £8,195.

Now with most skoda dealers all they really want to do is ’sell, sell, sell’ but if you search around online, and if you live in or near Sussex, then I would highly recommend Birchwoodgroup.co.uk who also sell other brands including Ford, Mazda, Renault and Vans.

Now, if your like me and like to compare cars, to see which ones gives best value for money, then you can (if the choice is between a Skoda and a Mazda), but which one to compare, well, to me, theirs no comparison, it has to be the Mazda6 This car looks simply sexy and stylish and one that will turn heads, in my opinion, more than what a Skoda will do, although for those of you that like Skodas, please don’t take offence.

This Mazda is the one that really took my fancy, It seemed to have everything I was looking for, even though you get so many extras with Skodas. But i’m still in two minds on which to give the full review on, so will be taking both for a test drive shortly, and will update this post with what I thought about both the Mazda6, and the Skoda Fabia.

Fiat Panda Cross – 4×4 of the Year 2009

The new Fiat Panda Cross, a car that was only launched in the UK three months ago, has scooped its first major off-roading honour – 4×4 of the Year 2009. The award comes from the specialist magazine 4×4 and MPV Driver, whose panel of expert judges put the new all-terrain Panda at the top of a list of extremely capable, and more expensive, competitors.

The judges praised the Panda’s off-roading capability, style and affordability but particularly highlighted the car’s brilliant 1.3 16v MultiJet turbodiesel engine – previously unavailable in a right-hand drive Panda 4×4.

“The diesel engine has made a star out of Fiat’s baby off-roader. It’s a viable motorway cruiser now, while bringing out the fun side of the Cross’s handling on twisty roads, something that is never at the expense of a surprisingly comfortable ride,” says Bob Murray, editor, 4×4 and MPV Driver. “The Panda Cross rewrites the rulebook for baby 4×4s in most areas, emerging as a capable all-rounder at a time when small is increasingly beautiful. We say it is the best new 4×4 launched in the past 12 months.”

Andrew Humberstone, managing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK, adds: “The Panda has a long and distinguished record in this country – as it has across Europe and it’s fantastic to see it not only continuing to be a top choice for our customers, but still able to impress very influential judging panels.”

As with any Panda, the Cross’s fuel consumption and emissions are exceptionally low. It returns 42.1 mpg in the urban cycle, 67.3 mpg extra-urban, and 54.3 combined. The CO₂ figure is 136 g/km. Standard equipment includes ESP, air conditioning, radio and MP3-compatible CD player with steering wheel audio controls, and electric power steering. One new colour is available: Rain Dance Green, which joins the existing Goa Orange, Cumbia Beige and Crossover Black.

Help For Heroes Winner Collects Kia Car

A gleaming new Kia Rio worth over £9,000, has been presented to Help for Heroes raffle winner, Mr Mike Rowe – thanks to sponsorship from the Westover Group, the region’s leading independent motoring company. Mr Rowe from Bournemouth was handed the keys to his new car by Paul Dillon, Westover Group Operations Director, at the company’s new Kia dealership in Ferndown.

Mr Rowe’s winning ticket was one of a number of tickets sold to help raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity offering practical support to British servicemen and women wounded on operational duty. The raffle was organised as part of the Help for Heroes International Rugby Festival, held in Bournemouth’s Meyrick Park. SKODA REPORTS FABIA SCRAPPAGE SUCCESS

“Whilst a wide range of vehicles are coming into Westover Skoda to be ‘part-exchanged’ under the Government’s scrappage scheme, the cars being sold are anything but varied,” comments Westover Skoda sales manager, Chris Baker. “Every new Skoda purchased to date has been a Skoda Fabia, with the exception of just two Octavia and one Roomster – and I’m pleased to report that we haven’t had any Skodas brought back into the dealership for scrapping!

A Sporty Little Number With 155bph at 5K rpm
